CORPUS

Charles LaBelle

For the past twenty years, Charles LaBelle has explored both the geographic and psychogeographic space of the city. Celebrating what Walter Benjamin called the “phantasmagoria” of the modern metropolis, LaBelle’s interest is in locating and investigating the intersection of place and subjectivity — the way human identities are formed in relationship to the spaces they inhabit and pass through.

After working with a variety of media, starting from January 2007, LaBelle devoted himself to a single, ongoing project: Buildings Entered. This book reproduces all 193 drawings from the album Corpus which was executed in 2010-11 as part of Buildings Entered.
